Turn customer migrations into repeatable revenue.
MAP funds the migration. Tech Data makes it run. We administer the paperwork, manage ACE opportunity tracking, and unlock Strategic Partner Incentives — so you can focus on winning the deal and delivering the outcome.

WHAT IS MAP

A proven program for cloud migration and beyond.

The AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) is AWS's comprehensive funding and methodology framework for customer migrations. Since 2016, it's supported thousands of enterprises moving to AWS; with funding, tooling, and a proven three-phase approach that de-risks complex transformations.

As of 2026, MAP has expanded to cover complete digital transformation: migrations, modernisation, and agentic AI features built as part of application, data, and workload modernisation. It's no longer just about lift-and-shift, it's about how customers build their modern, AI-ready foundation on AWS.

For partners, MAP means a structured path to scoping, funding, and executing migrations profitably with AWS investment offsetting customer costs and creating predictable pipeline. But accessing that value means navigating eligibility criteria, tagging frameworks, funding templates, and claim milestones. That's where Tech Data comes in.

MAP FRAMEWORK
HOW TECH DATA SUPPORTS YOU

MAP funding is available. We help you access it.

The program is only valuable if you can actually unlock it. Tech Data operates as your back-office for MAP, so your team stays focused on customer conversations, not AWS paperwork.

MAP Funding Administration

We manage the fund request lifecycle end-to-end — from initial submission through AWS Partner Funding Portal, through claim milestones tied to realised revenue outcomes. No manual milestone tracking, no missed claims, no funding left on the table.

Grow-1

Artifact Aggregation

MAP requires specific documentation — TCO models, migration readiness assessments, tagging configurations, phase-gate deliverables. We aggregate the required artifacts on your behalf and ensure submissions meet AWS criteria the first time, not the third.

Networking

ACE Opportunity Tracking

AWS Customer Engagements (ACE) is where opportunities live — and where they can easily fall out of compliance. Tech Data manages ACE opportunity tracking for your MAP deals, ensuring every opportunity is tagged correctly and tracked to revenue realisation.

Scope

Eligibility & Scoping Guidance

Not every customer opportunity qualifies for MAP — and within those that do, scoping decisions dramatically affect funding outcomes. Our specialists help you qualify opportunities early, scope them for maximum incentive, and position for Strategic Partner Incentives where they apply.

Pipeline Conversion

Funded assessments convert into migration pipeline. We help you turn MAP-funded discovery work into signed migration contracts, and signed migrations into modernisation follow-ons — building a repeatable pipeline motion, not a one-off deal.

Local ANZ Specialists

The ANZ AWS team have run MAP engagements across industries and customer sizes in-market. You get direct access to specialists who've seen the edge cases, know the reviewers, and can accelerate escalations when timing matters.

STRATEGIC PARTNER INCENTIVES
Incremental funding, for the right opportunities.
On top of standard MAP incentives, AWS offers Strategic Partner Incentives (SPIs). This additional funding is unlocked for specific types of opportunities. Tech Data helps you identify which SPIs apply and structures opportunities to maximise funding outcomes
SPI 01

Greenfield Migrations

New AWS customers migrating their first workloads unlock incremental funding. Tech Data helps you identify net-new logos in your pipeline and position them for Greenfield SPI eligibility early — before standard MAP criteria gets applied.

SPI 02

VMware-to-AWS Transitions

Customers transitioning from on-premises VMware to AWS Native or hybrid cloud qualify for dedicated VMware migration funding. Highly relevant given recent VMware licensing changes and a sharp differentiator for partners with strong Broadcom-era migrations.

SPI 03

Modernisation Opportunities

Customers moving beyond lift-and-shift into application modernisation, containerisation, or GenAI integration unlock Modernisation SPIs. This is where MAP's 2026 expansion matters most — turning traditional migrations into higher-value transformation engagements.

ENGAGEMENT JOURNEY
From customer conversation to funded delivery.
Here's what engaging Tech Data for a MAP opportunity actually looks like. From first call to claim realisation.
1-2Qualify

Share the opportunity with our AWS team. We assess MAP eligibility, SPI alignment, and scoping considerations before any funding submission.

2-3Submit

We prepare and submit the MAP fund request through AWS Partner Funding Portal on your behalf, including artifact bundles and Partner Central alignment.
3-4Execute

You run the migration; we manage ACE tracking, phase-gate artifact submission, tagging compliance, and claim milestone creation behind the scenes.
4-2Realise

As milestones hit, claims convert to realised revenue. We handle the reconciliation. You focus on closing the next deal.

OPPORTUNITY FIT
Does your customer qualify?
MAP eligibility depends on the scope of the migration and not the size of your business or the customer's. Generally, qualifying opportunities involve:

Workloads moving from on-premises or another cloud provider to AWS

Minimum committed AWS spend after migration (typically $100K+ ARR on AWS)

Engagement through an AWS Partner authorised for MAP — including Tech Data-aligned partners.

Commitment to AWS's three-phase methodology (Assess, Mobilize, Migrate & Modernize)

Willingness to tag migrated workloads per MAP requirements for AWS verification
MAP Lite
Smaller migrations, same methodology.

For migrations below the standard MAP spend threshold, MAP Lite offers a simplified version with reduced funding but similar methodology and tooling access. It's ideal for SMB-focused partners building a repeatable motion with smaller-scope customers.

  Simplified approval path
  Same three-phase framework
Access to MAP tooling and templates
Scales into full MAP as customers grow
Not sure if you qualify? Our ANZ AWS team runs no-obligation eligibility assessments. Share the opportunity, we'll tell you where it lands, including whether MAP Lite or an SPI might apply.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need to be an AWS Premier Partner to access MAP through Tech Data

No. Tech Data can support partners at multiple AWS tiers through MAP — eligibility depends on the opportunity itself, not your tier. For partners working to grow their AWS practice, MAP opportunities can be one of the fastest ways to tier progression.

What's the difference between MAP and MAP lite

MAP Lite is a simplified version for smaller migrations that fall below the standard MAP spend threshold. It offers reduced funding but retains the same three-phase methodology and tooling access, with a streamlined approval path. It's a strong fit for SMB-focused partners building repeatable motion at smaller deal sizes.

Does MAP cover modernisation and GenAI, or just migration?

As of 2026, yes. AWS expanded MAP to cover complete digital transformation — including GenAI and agentic features built as part of modernising existing applications, data, or workloads. This expansion unlocks MAP for partners running modernisation engagements that previously sat outside program scope.

How long MAP engagement take?

Typical engagements run 6–18 months depending on scope. The Assess phase takes 2–4 weeks, Mobilize 4–8 weeks, and Migrate & Modernize runs as long as the migration itself. Recent AWS changes have streamlined fund request approval times through the updated AWS Partner Central workflow.

Who owns the customer relationship, Tech Data or Me?

You do. Tech Data operates as the distribution partner behind the scenes — we don't engage the end customer directly or compete with you on delivery. You own the relationship, the commercials, and the delivery. We run the program, the funding, and the AWS-facing administration.
